Session Description
What do the following business cases have in common apart from being viable business models or products that created international buzz?
- Modular mobile phones (Fairphone)
- Full-service car leasing (Volvo Care)
- Remanufactured engines (Caterpillar)
- To-Go cup deposit (Recup)
- Lifetime furniture buy-back option (IKEA)
- Used passenger aircrafts (Airbus)
- Light-as-a-service (Philips)
All these examples are the result of circular economy thinking. A circular economy aims to be restorative by design. At the core, the objective is to move away from the “take, make, waste” linear system by designing, using and optimising product-service-systems and business models for multiple cycles of disassembly and reuse before conventional recycling. In this session I will present The Basics of Circular Economy (Business Models and Building Blocks), industry snapshots and background intelligence, comments on the limits and "Dark Side" of the Circular Economy.
